The British Art market generates around £500 million a year. Who controls this money? Where does it come from? Where does it go? Is there really an Artwold mafia covertly manipulating the scene - and if so, how does it exercise its power?
Julia Peyton-Jones is the Director of the Serpentine Gallery in London; eminently qualified to shed light on how the exploding market for contemporary art affects artists, galleries, journalists, collectors, and the public.
Louisa Buck is a writer and broadcaster on contemporary art. Columnist for The Art Newspaper, and a regular reviewer on BBC radio and TV. Her books include Moving Targets 2: A User’s Guide to British Art Now (Tate 2000) Market Matters: The Dynamics of the Contemporary Art Market (Arts Council England 2004) and Owning Art: The Contemporary Art Collector’s Handbook (co-authored with Judith Greer) (Cultureshock Media 2006) She was a judge for the 2005 Turner Prize.
