Special-Relationship? The Future of Anglo-American Relations in the Obama Era
HOME > LECTURES&EVENTS > SPEAKERS > Sir Christopher Meyer > Special-Relationship? The Future of A...
|
How will the Anglo-American Special Relationship, so close under the Blair-Bush years adapt to the new world Obama era. Can the central platform of British diplomacy survive both the global economic crisis, and the continued conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq? Should the UK be looking more towards Europe for its allies in an increasingly multi-polar world?
Sir Christopher Meyer was the UK Ambassador to the United States from 1997-2003. He was the man who first introduced Tony Blair and George W Bush, was the main link between them in the aftermath of 9/11 and the run up to the Iraq War, and confidant of both leaders.
In 2005 Sir Christopher published the bestselling, and very controversial, DC Confidential, about his time at the centre of Anglo-American politics. Until 2009 he was chair of the Press Complaints Commission.
Sir Christopher has an unparalleled insight into politics and international affairs. It is a privilege to welcome him to the Academy.
