Miller’s Academy is delighted to announce a unique collaboration with Notting Hill institution, The Gate Theatre.
From the 1st November, the Gate is presenting a fiftieth anniversary revival of Car Cemetery, the most famous play by the legendary Spanish playwright and cultural icon, Fernando Arrabal.
Arrabal is one of the most elusive and influential literary figures of the twentieth century. He has directed seven full-length feature films, published over one-hundred plays, fourteen novels, seven poetry collections, and many essays, as well as his celebrated “Letter to General Franco” during the dictator’s lifetime. He was a founder of the controversial Panic Movement during the 1960’s. He has been decorated with the French Legion of Honour, as well as the Grand Prize for Theatre of the Académie Française, the Nabokov Prize for novel writing, the Espasa Prize for Essay Writing, the World Theater Prize, etc. He was reportedly a finalist for the Nobel Prize in 2005, a prize which several institutions and personalities solicited for him.
This special evening includes admission to the play at the Gate Theatre from 7pm-8:30pm. It is then a hop, a skip, and a jump back to the Academy, where Fernando Arrabal will answer questions about his work from the audience over drinks and canapés. This is a unique opportunity to talk a true literary giant.
