Henry Hemming is 28 years old. After university, he took a year-long journey through the Middle East, for both his art and his writing. His written account, Misadventure in the Middle East: Travels as a Tramp, Artist and Spy was published last year. Colin Thubron called it: ‘A once-in-a-lifetime journey, full of youthful ebullience and idealism, but self-aware too, and brave.’ It was recently shortlisted for the Dolman Best Travel Book Award 2008. In Search of the English Eccentric is his second book; see www.henryhemming.co.uk for more.

“Hemming is a fresh new voice, idealistic, engaging and human.” – The Spectator
“A lovely, heartfelt paean to English eccentrics, by a member of the tribe.
A funny, timely and moving encounter with a dying breed” – Jon Ronson
